The torsional shear bolt is a fastener with a forced failure function. Principle of torsion shear bolt

The principle of the torsional shear bolt is realized by designing the geometry of the bolt head. Under normal circumstances, torsional shear bolts are composed of two parts: the head and the rod body. The shape of the head is the key to achieve forced failure of the torsional shear bolt, and the head usually has three forms: spherical, semi-circular and biconical.

After the torsional shear bolt with spherical head is subjected to the rotating torque, the spherical surface of the bolt head will translate along the normal line, which will produce shear force on the bolt rod body, so that it will produce shear stress on the rod body to reach the fracture of the bolt.

The torsional shear bolt of the semi-circular head is realized through the protruding part of the head. By designing the geometry of this part, the two sides of the rod body will compress each other during the torsional shear process, and finally produce shear force and shear stress, which causes the fracture of the bolt.

The double-conical head torsional shear bolt is also designed with the head shape to achieve forced failure. The double-conical shape of the bolt head can make the bolt move vertically similar to oscillation when it is rotated, causing the rod body to bend and shear stress, which leads to the fracture of the bolt.
